When you realize that despite everything you are, and always will be, fundamentally alien and alone in a sea of those you should be akin to, there is this moment that is not pain. It is like pain. It shares much with pain, but it lacks the desire for it to cease – you feel it, and know it will never really end, and there’s no point in struggling with it hoping it will. It isn’t accurate to say you are numb. To be numb would be much preferred to this, because you wouldn’t feel anything.

Instead, you feel this thing, forever.
